A killing on the ward taints the beginning of the new year for us all whether we know those involved or. When I was talking to the inspector yesterday my first reaction was relief that both victim and suspect are unknown to me. living locally and being your ward councillor I meet many people and my first thought was of course ‘is it anyone I know?’ Speaking to the inspector it quickly became apparent that the only suspect is in custody, evidence is being gathered and that no one else is being sought in connection with the incident.
It is a relief to know that our community is not currently being scoured for anyone else and hopefully justice can be achieved within a reasonable timescale in this case. This is the least that we can hope for on behalf of the family and friends of the young lady whose life has been taken. I am sure that I speak for you all when I say that my deepest sympathy lies with the family and friends of the deceased.
