Streetlight misery is coming

Half a million lights go out the piece begins.  The article in question is referring to County Councils up and down the country turning off streetlights to save money.

Warwickshire County Council is not named in the article but they have decided to turn off the vast majority of streetlights from midnight until dawn every day of the week.

  1. I consider streetlights a luxury because where I used to live in quite a large village in south warwickshire there were none and to my knowledge there are still none.
However, given the society that we live in today I can see the benefits of streetlights and i do think that where there are street lights it would be a backward step to turn them off and any savings from this would be lost in the cost to the community of increased crime, accidents and the general feeling of insecurity by the townspeople.
Where i do think savings could be made are to switch off the lights on miles and miles of motorways as all vehicles are equipped with headlights and should use them. Drivers would then be able to focus on the whereabots of other cars more readily.
