Warwickshire County Council would seem to be a little touchy on the subject of its decision to turn off the county’s street lighting after midnight. In this article on the BBC website the South Warwickshire village of Salford Priors is used as a successful example of turning off the lights after midnight without a rise in either anti-social behaviour or crime figures.
I think it worth pointing out that the population of Salford Priors (which includes five surrounding even smaller villages) is less than 1,500 people.
Maybe turning the lights off keeps the chickens quieter. Who knows?
There is at last a timeframe for the switch off which is given as April 2013. There have been a swathe of technical issues which have had to be overcome.
At least now we know when to expect the worst!
